Why Canon

Kyosei

As a global organization, Canon strives to balance our economic interests with a larger social and environmental commitment. Our goal: to ensure the ongoing preservation of our shared world.

The kyosei philosophy is evident in our green business practices and
conservation initiatives:
xxiv

  • A commitment to make our products more environmentally friendly, such as using recycled materials, less wasteful packaging, and partnering with Smartway Transport for improved fuel-efficiency and lower emissions from our
    logistics division.
  • For over a decade, Canon has partnered voluntarily with the Environmental Protection Agency to design and produce hundreds of Energy Star qualified products. We have received ten Energy Star Awards over the years.
  • For nearly 20 years, Canon has been collecting and recycling used toner cartridges. We have collected over 110,000 tons of cartridges since 1990.
  • Canon supports the Yellowstone Park Foundation with a program called 'Eyes on Yellowstone', which uses our
donated equipment to educate visitors, study wildlife behavior, and aid in the general management of one of the worlds most popular parks.

Canon's commitment to social and environmental responsibility can also be seen in our support of important public awareness programs:

  • Since 1997, Canon4Kids has supported the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help raise funds and awareness of the issue of abducted children. We have also donated imaging equipment to assist NCMEC in the recovery of these children.
  • Canon sponsors the Boomer Esiason Foundation, whose mission is to find a cure for cystic fibrosis, as well as to help provide a better quality of life for those affected by the disorder.
  • In 2007, Canon received a Public Television Leadership Award for our sustained support and funding of quality public television programs such as the PBS series NATURE.
  • Since 1998, Canon has supported the American Cancer Society, sponsoring a range of charity events throughout
    the U.S.
  • Since 1996, Canon employees have volunteered in the Canon Clean Earth Crew, cleaning parks, beaches, nature reserves, and other shared spaces across the country.
