Tablets are the newest entrants to the computer family and are quickly becoming the most popular. Tablets include the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy, ultra-compact devices that are thinner than many magazines and easy to navigate with touchscreens that replace the need for a keyboard or mouse. They're great for watching TV, playing games, listening to music, browsing photos or reading eBooks.

  • Travel-Sized: Tablets are incredibly lightweight and super-compact. Tablets weigh in around 1.5 pounds. Their screen size varies from 7 inches to nearly 10 inches. Tablets come with built-in batteries and don't have to be connected to a power source to operate. They travel well.
  • Fast: Most Tablets use Flash Memory so they can start up quickly and enable users to access different applications fast. Applications, or apps, generally load immediately. Their built-in memory is substantially smaller than netbooks, laptops, all-in-ones and desktops. It generally ranges from 16GB to 64GB.
  • Few Ports: Tablets don't have many ports. Some come with a microSD or SD card slot. Some have a USB port.
  • Internet Connectivity: All tablets connect to the Internet through a wireless connection. Some also come with 3G, enabling consumers to connect anywhere mobile phone service is available, for a monthly fee.

Bigger than a smartphone and smaller than a netbook, tablets are the perfect lightweight, on-the-go companion for watching movies, playing games, emailing or reading eBooks. They're a great choice for customers who want to play online but don't need a computer for work or bigger tasks.
